Who we are
About Us
Maleny Singers provide the local community with quality live musical performances by way of one major production each June, special event performances, a Christmas concert and special performances in aid of local charities.
Our aim is to give our audiences and performers a high level musical experience. Most of our singers draw from the hinterland, with a few travelling from the coast as well.
Held at the Maleny Community Centre each June, our major production is joined by the Maleny Performing Arts Orchestra and local dancers. Spanning more than a decade, we have performed Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, light opera, opera and oratorio.
The annual Christmas Concert, held at the Maleny RSL, helps raise funds for local charities, along with special purpose performances.
2027 Major Production
La Bohème
An opera in four acts by Giacomo Puccini
Set in the Latin Quarter of Paris in the 1830s, La Bohème is one of opera's most beloved works. Giacomo Puccini's score captures both the bohemian spirit and the fragility of young love, from the carefree bustle of Café Momus to the moonlit attic where Mimì and Rodolfo fall in love — and part for the last time.
The story
Christmas Eve in the Latin Quarter. The poet Rodolfo and the painter Marcello burn their manuscripts to keep warm. With friends Colline and Schaunard, they head off to Café Momus, but Rodolfo stays behind — where a chance encounter with the seamstress Mimì changes his life.
At Café Momus, the painter Marcello is reunited with his tempestuous Musetta. Through winter and into spring, love, jealousy and poverty weave their way through the lives of the bohemians.
In the garret one chilly day, Mimì returns to Rodolfo. Surrounded by their friends, their love is rekindled in a few precious moments — a finale of aching tenderness that has moved audiences for generations.
